Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Sheltersuit Sleep Out?
The Sheltersuit Sleep Out is a fundraising event, organized by Sheltersuit. We ask participants to sleep outside for one night. Without a tent, in the cold open air, that is the challenge. We do that to raise awareness and money for the issue of homelessness.

Where does my money go to?
The raised money will benefit the foundation Sheltersuit, that uses it to produce special water- and windproof jackets and equally distribute them amongst the homeless.

How can I participate?
You can participate in a few different ways. First of all by sleeping out with us! Reserve your spot and register now. You can also participate by creating a cool fundraiser, by sending a sleeping-representative of your school or company or by making a direct donation.

How much does it cost to register for the Sheltersuit Sleep Out?
Registering for the Sheltersuit Sleep Out costs € 15,-. This amount will reserve you a spot and give you your personal donation page.

Is there a minimum amount that I have to raise?
We ask all our participants to raise a minimum amount of € 300,-. That is the amount that we need to produce one Sheltersuit. When you register, you will receive your personal donation page. So don’t worry about the financial handling of your initiative. The easiest way to raise money is by telling your friends and family what you’re about to do and ask them for a financial contribution. Send them the link of your donation page out and start raising money!

Is it possible to participate with multiple people?
Yes, that is possible! Please contact us to arrange this.

Is the event suitable for children?
To participate as a sleeper in the Sheltersuit Sleep Out you have to be 18 years of age or older. But there are plenty of other possibilities! For example, ask your teacher or trainer if he/she want to sleep out, and together raise as much money as possible.

You can also take action to raise money, for example by organizing a mini-sleep out at your school, by selling bowls of hot soup or knit and sell warm scarfs. Of course we would like to know everything about your initiatives, so register here!

You’re also more than welcome at the Oude Markt in Enschede during the Sheltersuit Sleep Out. It will be a warm and beautiful night, so you can alway come by to check it out.

Can I do something else, instead of sleeping outside?
You can also take action to raise money, for example by organizing a mini-sleep out at your school, by selling bowls of hot soup or knit and sell warm scarfs. Of course we would like to know everything about your initiative, so register here!

Or ask someone from your school, company or association to sleep out with us and have as many people as possible to sponsor this person. Help this sleeping hero by raising money or setting up your own initiative.

We have special sponsor deals available for companies. Look at our partner page or contact us via [email protected].

How can I donate to a participant?
Every participant has his/her own donation page. Check our participant list and find the person that you want to support! Click on the donate-button and fill in the amount that you want to sponsor. Thanks a lot for your donation!

I want to donate to the Sheltersuit Sleep Out, how can I do that?
If you don’t want to donate to a specific contestant, you can do so by clicking on the ‘Donate now’-button on the homepage. Thanks a lot for your donation!

At what time does the event start?
The Sheltersuit Sleep Out lasts from 7:00 pm until 7.00 am. The exact time and information will be send to the participants prior to the event.

What will happen in case of bad weather?
During the week prior to the Sheltersuit Sleep Out we will closely watch the weather forecast. Participants are asked to dress warmly and to closely follow the safety instructions and -tips. Of course it is our wish to proceed with the event. Only extreme weather conditions will lead to cancelation of the event. This decision will be made after consultation with the security officers and the Gemeente Enschede.

What do I have to bring to the Sheltersuit Sleep Out?
It is important to wear warm clothes. Besides that, take warm and waterproof clothes with you, a sleeping bag (which is suited for cold temperatures), a hat and gloves. Of course Sheltersuit will arrange materials as well, but make sure to make yourself as comfortable as possible. It is allowed to bring cardboard or an extra sleeping mat. Follow the advice of the organization prior to the event.

Can I buy or bring alcohol to the event?
Participants of the Sheltersuit Sleep Out are not allowed to bring or consume alcohol during the event. Alcohol can be dangerous, especially when sleeping a night outside. No alcohol can be brought to the sleeping areas.

Can I bring a tent?
No, you can not bring a tent. The challenge is to sleep outside without a roof over your head. Lots of homeless people experience that every day. Can you handle it for one night?

I will not sleep out, but I would like to come by. Is that allowed?
Of course! The Oude Markt is accessible for everyone. There will be special sleeping areas for the participants, but we did not forget about the audience. During the whole night you are welcome to watch and give the participants some (warm) love.
